Choosing A Niche - Anatomy Of An Affiliate Campaign - Day 2

February 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

Yesterday, I looked at 3 strategies for starting an affiliate campaign.

Well, I’ve decided to go the long-term, authority site route and here’s why.

By nature, I’m risk averse.

I need a strategy where I can “hedge” a campaign by linking to a large number of merchants with diverse offers while still keeping within a niche where I have strong knowledge and can provide value to readers.

The niche I have chosen is gardening.

I have been a keen gardener for 22 years and as a teenager preferred to dig a vegetable plot than wander the shopping malls of the East Midlands with my peers.

Over the years I’ve accumulated an enormous amount of knowledge both of plants and of gardening techniques to the extent where friends will consult me about their own gardens.

I know what you’re thinking - gardening is an absolutely saturated niche but I would point you in the direction of Caroline Middlebrook or Tina Su. If ever there was a saturated niche, it’s the internet marketing and self improvement spaces.

Starting her blog in August 2007, Caroline has built up her readership to 1400+ subscribers and is already number 14 in Mark Wielgus’ Top 100 Make Money Online List.

Tina’s success has been even more inspirational going from 0 to 2000 subscribers in 3 months and then onto 4000+ now.

Now I’m not saying that I have the writing skills of those two incredible ladies but I do think I can offer gardening enthusiasts value-laden information and access to offers they may not know about.

With the niche chosen, the search for a domain and website platform comes next.

Find out more tomorrow.
