Going wide then deep

Amit had a great post today about a common mistake made by AdWords beginners. I’ll leave you to read his advice, but suffice it to say, it’s a mistake I too have made.

I’ve been doing client work for the past two days so I paused my campaign until I can spend some time on my landing page - work starts on that tomorrow and the campaign will resume.

I accidentally left my campaign running on Saturday, when I had planned to pause it over the weekend. I had raised the daily budget to £15 and was quite surprised to see that Google had allowed £17.80 to be spent. Is this normal?

I’d also left one of my split test ads pointing directly to my merchant’s category/product listing page and interestingly, my CPC went up to £0.47 so I guess my experiment from the other day failed - clever old Google!

Saturday’s Results

Google Adwords Spend: £17.80
Impressions: 116
Clicks: 38
Click Through Rate (CTR): 32.75%
Affiliate Commissions: £0
Adsense Income: $0.14

Running Totals

Advertising Spend: £71.79
Income: £8.47
Profit/Loss: -£63.32

Mood in the camp

Looking forward to spending some quality time with my landing page.
