So the first experiment’s over.
This low risk, low cost trial has taught me shedloads about AdWords and PPC and I’m raring to go on the next one.
I think I did really well with AdWords CTR which stood at 15.86% over the whole trial with 3,485 impressions and 553 clicks.
The site pushed clicks to 2 merchants with Merchant 1 receiving traffic from my affiliate landing pages and the Merchant 2 receiving traffic direct from AdWords.
Merchant 1 received 57 clicks, converting 2 to sales - a 3.51% coversion rate.
Merchant 2 received 142 clicks, converting 1 to a sale - a 0.7% conversion rate.
The CTR for my landing pages was 13.9% which feels like pretty poor performance - unfortunately, I haven’t found any statistics on what the average affiliate landing page converts at.
Overall, the experiment has made a £148.14 loss but the lessons learned have been more than worth it.
I’ll probably write a few more articles for the niche site and try to get some organic traffic flowing to it so that next year, when it’s time comes around, it may prove more profitable.
